SATURDAY 5 OCTOBER 2019 – 6.4KM – AMOLOCHOS THROUGH THE WATERMILLS OF FROUSEI TO MAKROTANTALO – LUNCH OF LOCAL PRODUCE
5 October 2019 @ 10:15 am – 5:30 pm
A beautiful 6km hike through a valley of ruined watermills followed by a lunch local cuisine and local produce from northern Andros provided by the local community of Makrotantalo.
From the meeting point, we will travel by coach to the mountain village of Amolochos in Northern Andros. The hike begins by descending the overgrown valley through the scattered settlements of Amolochos with old stone houses and olive trees. At the end of the descent, we arrive at the beautiful riverbed of the Frousei River and continue alongside the river passing impressive ruined watermills which took their power from a channelled water system. The hike passes through a variety of stunning river landscapes and a number of small waterfalls. The hike ends around 15:00 at the at the chapel of Agios Irini Chrysovalantou.
At the end of the hike, coaches will transfer hikers from the hike endpoint to Kalivari for a lunch provided by the Kalivari community!

TRANSPORT TO AND FROM GAVRIO FROM OTHER PARTS OF THE ISLAND
The hike transport to and from Gavrio has been timed to allow hikers coming from other parts of the island to take the local KTEL bus (from Ormos Korthi, Chora, Batsi) to arrive in time for the departure in the morning and then return home by the local KTEL bus service from Gavrio after the Hike transport drops them off.
