Take a walk to explore this historic exile site. A presentation by World Wildlife Fund (WWF) scientists on Yiaros’s rich biodiversity and their research findings. Take a sea swim in a protected area. A snack & a drink on board and return to Andros. This event is dependant on suitable weather conditions. \n\n\n\n From the Batsi Seafront Parking Meeting Point\, we stroll to Batsi Port. There we board the boat for the trip to the historic site of Yiaros\, once a place of exile and now a site of substantial biodiversity. \n\n\n\nThe boat crossing takes approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes. Upon arrival at the island of Yiaros\, we will be welcomed by members of the WWF team\, who have been researching the island’s sea and land areas in recent years. \n\n\n\nYiaros has been a marine wildlife sanctuary since 2015 and a Marine Protected Area since 2019\, providing a reference point for nature conservation in the Northern Cyclades. The WWF has been working systematically over the last 6 years to protect and promote this unique ecosystem\, that supports 10% of the world’s Mediterranean seal population\, who successfully live and breed on Yiaros. During the trip\, we will visit the Yiaros prison and hike to the camps of the exiles. There will be time for a swim or enjoy a guided snorkeling sea tour on one of the two sea trails designed during the WWF’s CYCLADES LIFE program. \n\n\n\nAround 1:30pm there will be a light lunch and a drink on board the boat. Κολατσιό & ποτό στο σκάφος και επιστροφή στην Άνδρο. \n\n\n\n Από το παραθαλάσσιο parking του Μπατσίου\, βαδίζουμε μέχρι το λιμάνι του Μπατσιού για να επιβιβαστούμε στο σκάφος που θα μας ταξιδέψει για τον ιστορικό τόπο της Γυάρου\, τόπο εξορίας αλλά και σημαντικής βιοποικιλότητας. \n\n\n\nΎστερα από θαλάσσιο ταξίδι περίπου 1 ώρας και 20 λεπτών θα φτάσουμε στο νησί της Γυάρου όπου θα μας υποδεχτούν τα μέλη της επιστημονικής ομάδας του WWF που ασχολούνται ερευνώντας τη θαλάσσια και χερσαία περιοχή του νησιού τα τελευταία χρόνια. \n\n\n\nΗ Γυάρος αποτελεί θαλάσσιο καταφύγιο αγριας ζωής από το 2015 και Θαλάσσια Προστατευόμενη Περιοχή από το 2019 αποτελώντας ένα σημείο αναφοράς για την προστασία της φύσης στις Βόρειες Κυκλάδες. Το WWF τα τελευταία 6 χρόνια εργάζεται συστηματικά για την προστασία και την ανάδειξη του μοναδικού αυτού οικοσυστήματος που επέλεξε το 10% του παγκόσμιου πληθυσμού της μεσογειακής φώκιας για να κατοικήσει και να αναπαραχθεί. Στη μονοήμερη επίσκεψη στη Γυάρο θα επισκεφθούμε τις φυλακές της Γυάρου\, θα πεζοπορήσουμε στα σημεία κατασκηνώσεων των εξορίστων και στη συνέχεια όσοι θέλουν θα κολυμπήσουν και θα απολαύσουν θαλάσσια ξενάγηση με μάσκες (snorkeling) σε ένα από τα δύο θαλάσσια μονοπάτια που σχεδιάστηκαν κατά τη διάρκεια του προγράμματος ΚΥΚΛΑΔΕΣ Life από το WWF . Συνοδοί μας όλη τη διάρκεια της μέρας τα μέλη της ομάδας του WWF που εργάζονται στην περιοχή. \n\n\n\nΓύρω στις 1.30 ελαφρύ γεύμα & ποτό στο σκάφος και γύρω στις 15.00 θα ξεκινήσουμε το ταξίδι της επιστροφής προς την Άνδρο. Συνεχίζουμε κατηφορίζοντας προς την παρθένα παραλία Κούτσι όπου θα έχουμε την ευκαιρία να κολυμπήσουμε ! The hike travels from Batsi to Koutsi beach  followed by a  fishermen’s feast at Paleopolis the ancient capital of Andros. After the meal there will be a guided visit of the Paleopolis Archaelogical Museum and a visit to the Ancient Acropolis of Paleopolis \n\n\n\nThe hike starts from the picturesque seaside village of Batsi. Taking the old paved “Plakotos route” to the foothills of the central Kouvara mountain range\, we will enjoy the spectacular views towards the western coastline. From there to the delightful rural settlement of Ano Aprovato where we descend to the un-spoilt Koutsi beach.  At the beach\, there will be an opportunity to swim for those who want to. After a stop at the beach\, we will return to the road above where a bus will take us to the terraced village of Paleopolis\, the ancient capital of the island for 1000 years\,the capital of the island in antiquity\, ending in the open theater next to the Archaeological Museum. \n\n\n\nLunch of local dishes\, prepared by the Paleopolis Association\, begins around 15:00pm. \n\n\n\nAt the end of the meal\, at around 17:00pm\, there will be a tour of the Paleopolis Archaeological museum & a short visit at the Ancient Acropolis of Paleopolis \n\n\n\nAt the end of the tour at around 19:00pm special Festival bus will be available to take hikers back to Batsi and Gavrio. DESCRIPTION:11 October 2019 \n\n \n @ \n \n 10:30 am \n \n \n – \n \n \n 5:30 pm \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n Μια όμορφη πεζοπορία 6\,4km που περνά από παλαιούς νερόμυλους και το μεσημέρι τοπική κουζίνα και προϊόντα της βορείου Άνδρου από την τοπική κοινότητα Μακροταντάλου \n\n\n\nΜεταφερόμαστε με πούλμαν στον ορεινό οικισμό του Αμολόχου στη Βόρεια Άνδρου\, βίγλα του Κάβο Ντόρο. Η πεζοπορία μας ξεκινά κατηφορίζοντας τη κατάφυτη κοιλάδα περνώντας από τις διάσπαρτες ενορίες του Αμόλοχου με τα παλαιά πέτρινα οικήματα και τα λιόνδεδρα. Φτάνουμε στην υπέροχη κοίτη του ποταμού των Φρουσαίων και συνεχίζουμε παράλληλα με τη ρεματιά. Περνάμε από τα εντυπωσιακά ερείπια νερόμυλων που συνδέονται με αλυσιδωτό σύστημα ύδρευσης\, το παλαιό μυλοχώρι των Φρουσαίων\, κινούμενοι ανάμεσα σε οργιαστική βλάστηση και μικρούς καταρράκτες. At\nthe end of the descent\, we arrive at the beautiful riverbed of the Frousei\nRiver and continue alongside the river passing impressive ruined watermills\nwhich took their power from a channelled water system. The hike passes through\na variety of stunning river landscapes and a number of small waterfalls. After Galia the hike climbs up through the green valley of Stennies and Apoikia\, passing Fabrika\, the largest water mill in Andros. From there\, crossing the riverbed\, the route heads past the Leontos bridge with the beautiful village of Stenies above and climbs to the impressive ruins of the Bistro Tower and walk alongside the stream to Apatouria. After a short visit to the church of Agia Kyriaki the hike reaches Apoikia and the cool springs of Sariza spring. \nFrom Apoikia coach transport will take you by coach to the renovated old Monastery of Agia Irini and visit the impressive church with the marble icons as well as the remarkable exhibition rooms on the flora and rocks of Andros\, traditional musical instruments\, and writing instruments. After visiting the Monastery\, the hike descends\, giving wonderful views of Chora and the Messaria Valley\, to the riverbed of the Livadia River. It then passes successive intersections with other hiking routes before crossing the riverbed of the Megálou Potamoú (Great River) and continuing along the river to the Liokitra estate. At the estate\, a break\, a guided tour of the beautiful citrus orchards. Then the hike continues alongside the riverbed passing the impressive fields of citrus trees enclosed by lines of huge cypresses. We will descend alongside the overgrown stream and running water falls to reach the Byzantine capital of Andros\, Mesaria\, with its impressive towers.
