FRIDAY 11 OCTOBER 2019 – 6.3KM – MENITES – MESSARIA – ALADINOU – FOROS CAVE – KOURELI – TSOUNIA BOWLING GAME

A 6.3 km hike from the lush settlement of Menites, on to historic Messaria, over arched bridges, to the Foros cave at Aladinou and the picturesque settlement of Koureli.A guided tour of the Foros cave, by the Aladinou Association and a chance to play the local game “Tsounia” hosted by the Pera Chorio Association.
A bus will take hikers from the meeting point in Chora to the lush settlement of Menites, famous for its lion head springs. The hike starts with a descent alongside the lush stream and running waterfalls to reach the Byzantine capital of Andros, Messaria, with its impressive towers. We will continue downhill to the Megálou Potamoú (Great River) bed and the haunted arched stone bridge. Then, we will climb to the picturesque settlement of Alladinou, and descend to another arched bridge and continue with a climb to the Foros Cave at Aladinou. After a tour through the cave, around noon, we continue to climb to reach the scenic village of Koureli.
Around 2:30pm – A lunch of local dishes and the ancient bowling game of “Tsounia” hosted by the Pera Chorio Association
After lunch, at around 5:15pm, Festival buses will take hikers back to Batsi and Gavrio, Chora and Ormos Korthi(via Chora).

If you are coming to CHORA from GAVRIO, BATSI or ORMOS KORTHI, you can take the REGULAR KTEL BUS.

At CHORA, the SPECIAL FESTIVAL BUS will take you to the Hike Start in MENITES.
At the end of the day , at the Hike End in KOURELI, Special Festival Buses will take you directly back to
Batsi, Gavrio, CHORA, and Ormos Korthi (via Chora). Times below.
